Portrait shoot ~ Botanical Printmaker Katie Rhodes aka Pulp & Pigment.
Last year I was commissioned by a magazine to take some photos of Katie’s home in Dronfield, near Sheffield, which is close to me. The feature was on Katie’s lovely house but also how she uses it for her art - you can see some of the photos on the journal from that shoot. Today’s post though is another body of photography I’ve shot for Katie - we found we were so well suited to work together with our mutual love for nature and the outdoors.
Katie is a botanical print maker going under the name of Pulp & Pigment, foraging in the Peak District for the botanicals that form the basis of her artwork. While we planned the shoot to be all on one day, the weather had different ideas. Katie and I both had a similar vision for the photos and really wanted a magic light to them. After a few postponed dates we decided to split the shoot up and crack on with her home studio shots first and then take it by ear for the outdoor shots - cue much radio contact about the weather and syncing up diaries. On one beautiful day some weeks ago we decided to go for it only for the sky to turn grey as we parked up. Not a pair to be fazed, we came up with plan B and ended up shooting on the stunning morning of the autumn equinox. It was so fitting for Katie’s shoot and I got to shoot in my favourite woodland in Matlock. I hope you enjoy these images of Katie in her natural environment, we loved creating them!
